Encryption

Given the recent high profile losses of unencrypted laptops by Bord Gais and the HSE, the onus is on companies to encrypt all mobile devices that contain data. As the technology is available the belief is that companies should make the investment to protect laptops and portable hard drives if they are serious about protecting personal data.

Although a U.S. survey from 2007, the premise of the survey is universal. Given the many examples of data loss in Ireland since that time the public are very aware of what can be done to prevent data loss so it can be assumed that the survey represents current attitudes in Ireland.
